The purpose of the Daily Virtue is to help our friends comply with the commandments Baha’u’llah has enumerated in His Most Holy Book. The goal of these ordinances is to help us to know and to love God and to obey His commandments.
We do this by providing daily emails and online content that offer short calendar-based lessons to help you to deepen your knowledge, strengthen your faith, and increase your service to humanity. This information can be used in many ways but we suggest two different approaches. You choose.
Two Approaches to Grow
The first approach is to focus on the basics. These are the specific practices Baha’u’llah requires of us. These practices include daily prayer, mediation, repeating Allah’u’Abha, recitation of one of the obligatory prayers, calling yourself to account, and reading the Writings at night and in the morning.
To that we add the general practices required of us: remembering God, service to humanity, charity to the needy, truthfulness in all matters, chastity, mindfulness, and the practice of all aspects of virtue in our private and public life. General practices can be done numerous times each day. They can and should be part of the first approach, but they are specifically included in the second approach noted below.
Second, you dive deeper and take a bigger step. In addition to the above you can systematically put into practice what you are reading and learning every day. In the beginning you may have to work at it but soon it will all become a habit. Do this for a while and you will set in motion a process of personal transformations that will propel you to heights you never thought possible.
When to Begin
If you choose to do the basics you may want to start first thing in the morning. It’s easier that way. If you want to transform your life then do the second approach and start in the evening. The day begins at sunset for Baha’is and that makes a big difference in the way we see the world and interact with it.
Just Do It!
There is no right way or wrong to do these things. The best thing most people can do is to experiment and find out what works best for you. It may change over time as you grow and develop. However, patience and perseverance is required, as is forgiveness. You would be wise to forgive yourself when you forget to do something or fail in the trying. It is much better to try and try again then to sit on the side lines. If you want to transform your life you have to be in the game: the game of life.
No matter how spiritual you are, no matter how deepened you are, no matter how smart you are there are always new things to learn, new horizons to explore, and more effective ways to serve humanity. There is only one way to progress and that is to jump into that fathomless Ocean of God's revelation for humanity today.
Please share your experiences with everyone. What you share may be of tremendous help to others. We are always looking to improve the Daily Virtue so anything you care to share will be greatly valued.
Join us on our quest to know and to love God, to serve humanity, and to become a living angel. If you find the Daily Virtue useful in your life, please tell others. Encourage them to join us. You may want to work alone but there are great advantages to working in small groups, either in person or with online with friends from around the world. We can help you form those groups.
