The Baha’is love to create and sponsor grassroots junior youth groups in our community, neighborhoods, and schools.
Junior youth groups are designed to help youngsters age 11-14 develop strong and virtuous characters. Your children learn to be happy, focused, and productive teenagers and young adults. Participants learn moral, spiritual and ethical skills society often fails to transmit.
“Children are the most precious treasure a community can possess, for in them are the promise and guarantee of the future. They bear the seeds of the character of future society which is largely shaped by what the adults constituting the community do or fail to do with respect to children. They are a trust no community can neglect with impunity….”
Universal House of Justice, Ridvan Message 2000, Haifa, 2000, p. 8.
Junior youth find themselves caught between childhood and the early stages of maturity. As such, they have unique social and developmental needs. They begin to think about the future and how they fit in. Some start to think about life’s big questions, such as the meaning of life and their purpose in life.
Baha’i-sponsored junior youth classes are free and are usually held in neighborhoods. They are open to everyone – every race and religion. Classes are usually facilitated by an older adolescent or young adult. Junior youth classes empower personal transformation based on an altruistic sense of a higher purpose in life. Emphasis is on personal growth and increase of spiritual capacity as a path to fun and happiness, new friendships, and positive social development.
Nurturing these capacities in our young people brings out the best in them. Giving them the opportunity to use these innate capacities expresses the true colors and noblest aspects of the adolescent heart and mind. Our community will be a better place to live, your home will be more harmonious, and your children will thank you for encouraging them to seek more in life.
